Extremely Concerning Bird Flu Update!!

From The Telegraph article:

Bird flu kills school girl and infects father – 11 others under observation

Scientists testing a dozen people for avian influenza in Cambodia have said the father of an 11-year-old who died from the disease is infected.

Reports of a possible human cluster of H5N1 have caused unease among scientists and health officials around the world.

Over the past two years, the lethal pathogen has devastated bird populations in unprecedented numbers and has more recently jumped into mammals including mink, foxes and sealions.

There are also signs it may be mutating, which could eventually enable H5N1 to spread efficiently in humans.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday it was “concerned” the current outbreak may be spreading between people and ordered a new vaccine for humans to be made in response to the rapid spread of the virus.

A Must See Documentary About the Link Between the Global Exploitation of Animals and Most Pandemics

Please watch and share this FREE documentary (1 hour and 7 minutes long). It contains great information about the loss of biodiversity and the exploitation of animals and the direct link to pandemics in the world.

What’s Been Happening in 2022?

In 2022 alone, there have been new outbreaks of viruses - all zoonotic with the exception of polio. There is something very wrong with this picture!

There have been viruses found in Tibetan glaciers and threats of melting glaciers due to the climate change crisis we are in could mean unleashing unknown (to us) viruses from the Arctic to Antarctica.

Below is a running list of known viruses in just this year alone. We would like to thank our colleague, Penny Perkins, for keeping this list updated.

  • COVID (worldwide)

  • Monkeypox (worldwide)

  • Polio (New York State)

  • Marburg (Ghana)

  • Ebola (Congo)

  • Meningitis (Florida) - bacterial meningitis called meningococcal disease is officially being labeled as an outbreak in Florida

  • Swine flu (United States and India)

  • Novel Langya henipavirus (LayV) (in China after reports of at least 35 infections)

  • West Nile Virus (Toronto)

  • Tuberculosis

  • Tomato flu (India)

  • Khosta 2 (Russia) - similar to COVID-19 and could be resistant to vaccines (found in Russian bats) (article dated Sept. 22, 2022)

Earth and Our Relationship with Nature

“The climate crisis is just one symptom of the sustainability crisis we face: We have industrialized life on Earth and broken our relationship with nature.”

Environmental activist Greta Thunberg is teaming up with Mercy For Animals to speak out about animal agriculture and highlight its connection to the environmental crisis.

Also, there is an excellent documentary called Extinction: The Facts on PBS (and other venues as well). With a million species at risk of extinction, Sir David Attenborough explores how this crisis of biodiversity has consequences for us all, threatening food and water security, undermining our ability to control our climate and even putting us at greater risk of pandemic diseases.

About

We are partnering organizations and people who want to share critical information about the relationship between pandemics and what we eat, how we treat animals and the environment and what we can do about it.

We will be sharing links to articles and videos to help you understand what causes most pandemics and explain in more detail what zoonotic diseases are, as well as how a vegan diet helps reduce risk and mitigate incidents of pandemics which are a growing concern for the future.

We believe it’s possible to have a pandemic-free world. To quote Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (Director-General of the World Health Organization) from a speech he gave on February 12, 2018:

“Can we create a pandemic-free world? This is the question. There is no such thing as a guarantee, but with meticulous preparation and rapid response, we can prevent most outbreaks from getting out of control, and limit the impact of those that spread internationally.”

Between meticulous preparation and rapid response to any viral outbreaks and choosing a vegan diet, it would greatly reduce the chances of another pandemic affecting our lives such as the current one is.

“The science is clear that if we keep exploiting wildlife and destroying our ecosystems, then we can expect to see a steady stream of these diseases jumping from animals to humans in the years ahead.”
